The MTN Ghana Foundation has announced that nominations are now open for the Heroes of Change Season III, a television series which recognises and rewards persons who have provided significant services to their communities through personal sacrifices.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, August 31, by the acting CEO and Corporate Services Executive of MTN Ghana, Mrs Cynthia Lumor, at the launch of the programme in Accra.

She said people who were impacting their communities in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment could be nominated at all MTN Service Centres and the official MTN Heroes website - heroes.mtn.com.gh - before the October 20 deadline.

According to Mrs Lumor, persons nominated in the two previous seasons but who did not win the ultimate prize could be nominated again.

"After the collection of entries, the submitted projects will be shortlisted by a panel of judges. Thereafter, a team will be despatched to the communities to verify the projects,” she said.

"The work of the 10 shortlisted finalists will be broadcast as part of a 13-week television series. After this, winners for the categories of health, education and economic empowerment will be selected and recognised with awards of GH¢20,000 each.

"The grand award of GH¢100,000 will be received by the finalist who emerges as the 2016 MTN Hero of Change. The remaining six will be awarded with GH¢5,000 each to support their work."

She added that  her outfit had also introduced two new initiatives to this year's programme, including offering the public an opportunity to contribute to the work of their favourite nominee through the MTN Mobile Money platform.

The second initiative, she said, was a social media campaign dubbed, "MyHeroes" which will invite the public to nominate individuals touching the lives of their communities on Facebook.

All entries for this year's programme will be assessed by a four-member jury comprising motivational speaker Rev. Albert Ocran, Dr Doris Dartey, a communications consultant; Mr Mohammed Awal, a publisher, and Mr Sidney Casely Hayford, an economist.
