Female artistes hard to handle - Managers claim

It's no secret that the relationships between celebrities especialy musicians and their managers are often tempestuous and can end under acrimonious circumstances.

Although of a bigger magnitude in the West, Ghana has had its fair share of such artiste-manager breakups. There is no way one can forget Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale’s infamous split with his manager, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson popularly known as Bulldog.

And who would have thought Afro pop singer, Becca would part ways with Kiki Banson but it happened and then is the recent one involving Gospel singer, Joyce Blessing and Kwesi Ernest of Media Excel.

Even though male artistes split more from their managers, opinions Showbiz has sampled from some managers indicate that female artistes are rather very difficult to manage, especially those in relationships.

Reagan Mends has managed artistes like Terry Bonchaka, Sherifa Gunu and King Ayisoba and according to him, female artistes work well when they’re in relationships with their managers than with someone else.

“Most of the Gospel musicians have their husbands managing them and it is working for them because they understand each other better,” he said.

He explained that the concentration of the female musician is always on her lover and she would often take orders from him than from her manager
.“The sad part is, the female artiste who has a broke boyfriend will spend all the money she earns on him. There will always be confusion between a female artiste and her manager if he is not the boyfriend,” he said.

Kwesi Ernest who has also managed Bernice Offei, Georgia Adjei, Francis Amo, Louisa Annan and Joyce Blessing said female artistes often expend their emotions on their lovers than on their music.

“Only a few female artistes can stand the test of time. The situation is even worse if such boyfriends are jealous. The female artistes will virtually listen to the boyfriend and not you the manager,” he said.

According to Kwesi Ernest, a female artiste who is not in a relationship is smarter and more aggressive in getting her work done.

Lynx Entertainment boss, Richard Mensah (Richie) thinks the situation depends on the female artiste. According to him, some female artistes are able to separate their relationships from their work.

According to Richie, who has worked with artistes including Asem, Eazzy, Irene Logan and is currently managing Kidi, MzVee and Kuami Eugene, some female artistes are virtually unable to work if their boyfriends are stressing them.

“The female artiste who has a problem with the boyfriend is not able to work well in the studio. There have been times a whole production has to be put on hold because the female artiste is having issues with her boyfriend,” he said.
