A concert in his honour will come off tonight, August 26 at the Gold Coast Restaurant, near the Nyaho Medical Centre at Airport Residential Area in Accra.

Musicians scheduled to perform at the show include Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Yaa Pono, Wanlov, Adina, Bessa Simmons, Irene Logan, Bim Beckley and Ebo Taylor. They will all be backed by Akablay and his Abiza Band.

Patrons at the show will hear a wide variety of interpretations of Osibisa gems such as Sunshine Day, Music for Gong Gong, Welcome Home, Woyaya, Fire, Coffee Song, Celebration, The Warrior and Adwoa.

Tontoh died on August 16, 2010 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.  Apart from being a member of Osibisa, Tontoh also recorded his own music and helped many young musicians to find their feet in the music business.

“Mac Tontoh was a very generous man. He was one of the people who required the least from you in order to teach you. He’s gone but will never be forgotten,” said music producer and recording engineer, Panji Anoff, one of the organisers of tonight’s concert.

Another member of the team putting the show together, Dr Kwesi Owusu, said Tontoh was a dedicated musician and kind-hearted man who gave of his time and resources to see others blossom.

Drummer and founding member of Osibisa, Sol Amarfio, will be the special guest at the 7.00pm concert.
