Yanful steps up his game

Patrons of the Piano Bar live music venue, near the Greda Estates Roundabout at Teshie in Accra, have become familiar with his regular sparkling Sunday night Afro-Pop sessions and always show appreciation with courteous applauses.

It is such acts of admiration that have kept Ernest Ebbo Yanful Howard’s creative juices flowing with ease in recent times.

The young man who sings and plays the  guitar, prefers to be simply referred to as Yanful.

He is getting noticed out of the Piano Bar shows and had a chance to perform at the fifth Ghana Industrial Awards held at the Banquet Hall of the State House earlier this month.

“I’m not in a hurry to be called a star. There is so much to learn in this field of music and my main aim is to up my game and get the audience to like what I do anytime I take to the stage,” said Yanful who is signed to mpmRekords.

He writes most of his songs and planning to release an album of some of his compositions next year. “He is a brilliant young musician and very clear about the heights he wants to reach in his career.

“We are happy working with him and trust more people will come to realise his abundant talent in the coming months,” said Eben Sowah, CEO of mpmRekords.

Yanful says his biggest musical influences include American singer/guitarist, Passenger and Ghana’s Gyedu Blay Ambolley.

Happily for him, he will open the show for Ambolley and Ben Brako when the two highlife veterans play at the Piano Bar on December 3.

“It is a dream come true to be on the same bill with those great exponents of highlife. I will, as always, climb several notches higher with my music on the night,” Yanful said with confidence.
