The reigning VGMA Gospel Artiste of the Year is the only artiste from Ghana announced by the organisers, Alordia Promotions and Westcoast UK to perform at the event.

The award winning artiste who has been praised for his great stage performances  is expected to ‘drop’ some of his popular songs which have endeared him to many on the day.

Some of the songs from SP Sarpong’s repertoire such as Ayeyi Dwom, Aseda, African Borborbor, Afutusem, Woye Nyame, Hour By This Time among others will “boom” in the auditorium.

For the Afutusem artiste, the GMA UK platform will afford him the opportunity to preach about Christ through his music and it will not just be about singing and dancing.

“We are in the last quarter of the year and many are witnesses to friends and relatives who couldn’t make it to this season of the year. I think this is a very good platform to express our gratitude and appreciation to God,” these were the words of SP Kofi Sarpong when he spoke with Showbiz on Monday.

Aside being a performing artiste, SP Sarpong has also been nominated in various categories of the award scheme.

He has a strong competition in the likes of Obaapa Christy, Nicholas Omane Acheampong, Joe Mettle, Patience Nyarko and Preachers in the Gospel Artiste of the Year category.

That is not all, he faces another “rivalry” in the Best Gospel Song category from Kofi Gyan’s Yoboyo, Obaapa Christy’s Hyebre Sesafo, Patience Nyarko’s Wafom Kwan and Aposor from Nicholas Omane Acheampong with the song, Hour By This Time.

In all, 26 categories will be awarded on the night. They include African Artiste of the Year, New Artiste of the Year, UK based Ghanaian Artiste, Best Rapper, Most Popular Song, Album of the Year, Best UK Gospel Song of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, Best Group, Best Highlife Song, Best Hiplife Song, Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year among others.

According to the organisers, the awards will be held annually to sell Ghana’s rich heritage through its music to the outside world.
