No originality in Dancehall - Ligal

Up and coming Reggae/Dancehall artiste, Ligal, has criticised the lack of originality and creativity among artistes of that genre and has stated that he is in to change the game. Speaking with Showbiz, Ligal, real name, Desmond Yelyen said he has identified that many artistes in the Dancehall genre lack originality which has resulted in the lack of Ghanaian representation on the international Dancehall scene.

“All our songs sound the same lately because most artistes are trying to simply copy what they see others do. There is not much originality lately and this is hurting the game,” he said.

Ligal told Showbiz that he aims to set the example by bringing in innovative stagecraft coupled with creative lyrics as well as thought-provoking and exciting songs.

He announced that he plans to introduce himself to Raggae/ Dancehall fans in the country beginning in Accra, with a tour of various suburbs dubbed, “the Accra Community Tour” which kicks off later this year.

“I want Reggae/Dancehall fans to know that there is a new star in town. The tour is free to the public and will be held at La, Dansoman, Madina, Nima and Tema.

“There will be a lot of artistes joining me on this tour. They include Rashid Metal, Addi Governor, Mishty, Shakim among others,” he said.

“All is set to kickoff the Community Tour and I want to alert all Raggae/ Dancehall fans and music lovers in the country to expect something totally different from what they have been used to,” he said.
