MUSIGA holds last peace walk in Accra

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) will tomorrow, September 30, hold the Greater Accra and final leg of its nationwide walk to promote peace.

The union has been on a STAR-Ghana-sponsored crusade to promote peaceful campaign and voting at the next general elections.  The first one came off in Tamale, Northern Region on June 7.

The Accra walk was originally scheduled for late August but had to be postponed till this month. It will start   from the National Theatre at 8.00am and go through some principal streets in the city before ending with a durbar at the Afua Sutherland Park. 

Like the others already held in the nine regional capitals, the durbar will be addressed by representatives of the National Commission for Civic Education, the Police and MUSIGA.  

A source at the union’s head office said most musicians in the region are aware of the walk and durbar and have promised to turn up for a successful event. 

The MUSIGA walk for peace initiative is dubbed, ‘Using Music for National Cohesion During Election 2016.

Meanwhile, the union has taken off with concerts as part of its campaign for peace during the elections. 

The first one was held in Sunyani, Brong Ahafo Region last Saturday, September 23.  

The concert featured several stars from the region including CST Amankwa, Dada Thick, Ama Grace, Obaapa Francisca, Paradise Singers and Monica Awuah. Popular hiplife act, Tic Tac, headlined the show.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Sunyani, Mr Kwesi Oppong Ababio, spoke at the concert. 

He commended MUSIGA for its consistent call for peace and urged all citizens to let peace prevail in the run-up to the elections and beyond.

The Brong Ahafo executive of MUSIGA also said they would coordinate with the district assemblies for more peace concerts to be held in major towns in the region like Berekum and Techiman.

The MUSIGA Peace Concert train moves to the Tamale Jubilee Park on October 15 and Accra on December 3.
