Doris Gyamo sings ‘Abandenden’

Singer Doris Gyamo got on well with the recording engineer on her eight-track ‘Abandenden’ debut album and the pair hoped to work on more projects but that was not to be.

The engineer, who also arranged all the songs, was the popular Kumasi-based George Forest and ‘Abandenden’ happened to be the last recording session in his Audiologic Studio before his untimely death in August, 2016.

At the launch of the album in October last year at the Victory Presbyterian Church at  Adenta-Frafraha in Accra, Doris stated that she immensely enjoyed working with George Forest and dedicated the album to him.

She later said his complete dedication to the project makes her remember him whenever she performs any of the tracks at her numerous live engagements.

With her imposing height and striking looks, Doris leans a lot toward live performances and is often on stage with the King Shabo Band. She has also appeared with King Benja and his Boomers Band.

“I feel I’m in my right element when I hold a mic on stage with a band to back me. That’s when I’m able to demonstrate my God-given musical capabilities,” said the Accra-based Doris who hails from Agogo in the Asante Akim District of the Ashanti Region.

All the tracks on the Abandenden album are rendered in Twi. They are mostly mid-tempo highlife that generally lift up the name of Jesus, emphasising the power, salvation and healing that dwell in there.

The songs, which include Agya Sane Yen, Onyame Gya, Edien Ene Wu Haw and Mesore Wo, are getting a fair amount of airtime on radio stations in Accra and Kumasi.

“Coupled with my live appearances, the rotation on radio is also giving me a push which is opening more doors for me. I’m confident more and more people would soon hear about me,” said Doris who wrote all the songs on the Abandenden album.

She is definitely a catchy, rising act capable of attracting more attention in the coming months.
