D. Man urges education on wings of music

If you are a parent or guardian who is preventing your children or wards from acquiring formal education, then you must listen to D. Man, real name Mr Godfrey Mensah’s recently released single titled ‘Education’ and face up to your responsibility.

D. Man is an Accra-based musician with a thing for socially relevant songs. His ragga-flavoured ‘Education’ piece is a strong reminder of how education can change the fortunes of nations and individuals.

Throughout the song, he hammers that education is the main tool for progress and also gives the thumbs down to child labour and child marriages.

During this year’s celebration of the World Day Against Child Labour in Ghana, it came out that about 1.9 million children were caught in the web of child labour.

D. Man said that was not a sign of progress since it is known that  a nation with a high literacy rate develops faster than one with a low level of literacy.

“Many parents do not realise that investing in their children’s education is an investment in themselves and the nation as a whole,” the musician pointed out.

“I know many parents whose circumstances have changed for the better because their children helped them out after gaining good jobs on completion of  their education,” he added.

With 15 years of experience in the music business, D. Man said  he had been around long enough to know that music was a wonderful medium for social and attitudinal change.

He hoped his song would appeal to organisations and individuals interested in promoting education in this country to get together with him to push their common agenda.

“There is strength in unity so my doors are open for any form of partnership with others pursuing the cause of education. I’m available to perform at their functions to help raise awareness on the importance of education for our children,” D. Man said.
