Alhaji, VVIP’s latest banger

They have been working hard to remain relevant on the music scene and they did that with Skolom and Dogo Yaro last year.

And to maintain the “status” they have earned in the Ghanaian music circles, music group, VVIP is back with a new song, Alhaji which features Nigerian dancehall artiste, Patoranking.

“Alhaji follows the trend that VVIP has carved for itself and for which the masses love and appreciate. The concept is in the VIP old tradition and trademark which has been depicted in our previous songs,” Reggie Rockstone, who spoke on behalf of the group told Showbiz on Tuesday.

Recorded by Tema based sound engineer, Mix Masta Garzy, Alhaji is a danceable song which talks about a wealthy Alhaji who is quite influential in the society.

His affluence earns him many friends because everyone in the community wants to be associated with him.

While Patoranking effortlessly sings about who Alhaji is in the chorus, Prodigal raps about Alhaji’s popularity.

Just like the success story of VIP now VVIP, Reggie Rockstone “brags” about how the group is still relevant despite being on the music scene for close to 20 years. Like Alhaji, he raps about how VVIP has grown to become a brand everyone loves to associate with.

Describing the song as Afro Hiplife, Reggie said, “This is a feel good music and very pop as well. VVIP is still in the Hiplife business but also experimenting with different sounds”.

VVIP, then known as VIP announced their presence as a new group with their debut Selfie song as a group in 2014. Since then, the group, made up of Reggie Rockstone, Zeal and Prodigal has earned for itself an enviable success with many nominations at the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

With songs such as Hustle, Give It To You and OMG, they endeared themselves to music lovers and stamped their legendary status when they grabbed the Best Group Award at this year’s VGMA.

The video of Alhaji, which was officially released on Monday was shot and directed by celebrated Nigerian video director, Clarence Peters. Already, the video is on YouTube and would be on ITUNES tomorrow, Friday, August 5.
