The Adventures of Sasa and Esi comes to National Theatre

The play which comes off at 7pm on July 28 and 2pm and 6pm on July 29 and 30 was written by Professor Martin Owusu and directed by Johnson Edu known as Edu Jay.

According the production manager, Gina Mainoo, the production is electrifying and full of great spectacle, terrific lighting and special effect make-up.

“Jay employs all his creative skills and prowess in technical theatre in the interpretation and translation of the script into both stage and film medium on the same stage, a research he has embarked on, which is an innovative combination of two visual mediums for a stage production”, she added.

The Adventures of Sasa and Esi (Subruku the Giant) tells the story of Sasa, a small boy, his younger sister, Esi and Subruku a giant, who is the king of the forest.

In this story we see Patam, a very wonderful dog and Papa, the father of the two children. They lived in the heart of a forest because their father was a hunter.

Usually, Papa leaves Sasa and Esi at home while he went a long way into the bush to hunt with the warning of them staying indoors. However, one day Sasa disobeyed his father and went out. The question is, what will happen to Sasa? For the rest of the story, the place to be is the National Theatre.

Edu Jay is very proud of his production team who are working very hard to bring this terrific production into fruition.

“Also, Sankofa Heritage is most grateful to the National Theatre of Ghana for their invaluable collaboration and great support lent to the production.”
