Lumba to celebrate ‘bday’ at Legends Night

Daddy Lumba, who has changed monikers over the years and now likes to be known as DL, will turn 53 on Friday, September 29. Although the concert will happen the next day, he is expected to still share his joy with the audience.

Born in 1964, Lumba is one of Ghana’s most prolific musicians and songwriters. He is also one of the busiest artistes in the country. Since his musical career began in the 80s, he has consistently released hit album after hit album and has over 22 albums to his credit.

The hit songs are too many to recount but the most popular ones include Ye Dea Wo Ho Beto Wo popularly known as Yentie Obiaa, Aben Wo Ha, Wo Ho Kyere, Yeye Aka Akwantuom, Theresa, Anti Atta, Doctor Panee, Biribi Gye Gye Wo, Nyame Nhyira Mmaa, Poison, M’enya Mpo among others.

While busy making music, he has also groomed a number of artistes who have gone on to become household names notably Ofori Amponsah with whom he worked on the Wo Ho Kyere album.

He has also collaborated with other Ghanaian musicians like A. B. Crentsil, Felix Owusu and Pat Thomas.

Daddy Lumba has courted controversy throughout his career; be it his sexually suggestive lyrics, his support for the NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo, his divorce from his first wife, Akosua Serwaa or his being poisoned by people he wouldn’t name among many others.

Through it all, this legend who has received countless awards has not lost his mojo and has always delivered the biggest songs over the years and his performance at the African Legends Night is a highly anticipated one.

He will not be the only one giving the audience thrills at the concert as another Ghanaian legend, Abrantie Amakye Dede,( Mr Serious) will also be on stage putting his incredible energy to use in ‘seriously’ delighting fans to his hits over the years.

The headline act for the event is Congolese icon, Kanda Bongo Man. It’s been over three deacdes since the man who brought us the ‘Kwassa Kwassa’ dance performed in Ghana and he has promised patrons a wonderful time on Saturday.

The African Legends Night is a Global Media Alliance initiative. The title sponsor is Vodafone Black.
