Another Ehalakasa slam final is here

The finalists were selected after competitions to unearth new talents in Kumasi, Takoradi and Tema in the course of the year. Three rounds of three minutes each is all each finalist has to try and claim the title. Five people chosen at random will judge each performance.

There will be cash prizes for the top three and the ultimate winner will travel to Cote d’Ivoire next year as guest at a poetry slam there.

The Ehalakasa movement has been prominent on the Ghanaian creative arts horizon since 2007 with the promotion of poetry, music, dance and theatre.

The movement has been an effective launch pad for a wide range of young and brilliant artistic talents over the years.

They include Mutumbo Da Poet, Kyekyeku, Jahwi, Rhymesonny, Poetra Asantewa, Chief Moomen, Nana Asase, Crystal Tettey and Hondred Percent.

The Ehalakasa name represents words from three Ghanaian languages: ‘Eha’-(Ewe) song; ‘La’-(Ga) sing and ‘Kasa’-(Akan) spoken word.

Host for this year’s Slam Final is Hondred Percent, a two- time Ehalakasa slam winner. He will be assisted by Two Idiots (Dr.So and Gen. Ntatea) as time and score keepers. Hondred Percent will travel to Nairobi, Kenya in March 2017 as a guest poet at the Slam Africa programme.

Ehalakasa's travels are supported by the Cultural Crossing project, an initiative of Gallery GM in the United Kingdom and Ehalakasa to enable artists travel within Africa.

The 6.00pm 2016 Ehalakasa Slam Final is supported by Nubuke Foundation, Gallery GM and MiCheck.
