This brings the number of UMB branches to 30, a move the banks says puts its strategic plan to improve the brand’s visibility and expand its distribution channel in the country on course.

At the launch, the Chief Operating Officer of UMB, Mr Benjamin Amenumey, commended the university for undertaking the banking square project to bring players in the financial industry closer to the university community.

According to him, the new branch was another indication of UMB’s commitment to play a critical role in developing the next generation of Ghanaian leaders.

He further outlined some of the student-friendly initiatives that the bank had undertaken in recent times and stated that “in 2014, we introduced the Aspire Account, an account designed for students to help them understand and practise financial discipline.”

“We have also organised several student seminars to introduce them to useful topics such as entrepreneurship, personal branding, financial discipline and investment opportunities for students,” he added.

The Director of Retail, UMB, Mr Lawrence Appiah-Baiden, stated that tertiary students constituted a key target for the bank.

He explained that “this is because in the next few years, these students will become the entrepreneurs and leaders who will be making critical decisions that will affect the fortunes of our nation,” he added.

He said in the coming months, the UMB would open more branches on other university campuses throughout the country.
