Turkey still the right place for business — Ambassador Bayazit

The Turkish Ambassador to Ghana, Madam Nesrin Bayazit, has stated that Turkey is still open to business despite the failed coup attempt in that country on July 15.

According to her, there is no cause for alarm, since the incident  which caused anxiety among the investor community has been brought under control.

The ambassador said this when the Institute of Certified Economists of Ghana called on her to show solidarity with the government and the people of Turkey.

She said the Turkish economy was a fast growing one in Europe and still looked vibrant despite the coup attempt last month.

“Some Arab countries after the coup have invested more resources to make sure Turkey is peaceful and also the investment atmosphere is not destroyed,” she noted.

Madam Bayazit also appealed to Ghanaians who had trade relations with Turkey not to worry because the situation was under control. She also assured them that their businesses would not be interrupted.

She also used the opportunity to invite Ghanaians to an upcoming Turkish Expo that would take place from August 24 to 27 in Accra.

The expo would afford Ghanaians the opportunity to see many products and also interact with other business partners from Turkey.

Role of foreign media

The ambassador was not happy about how some foreign media covered the coup attempt.

According to her, those foreign media have portrayed Turkey as an authoritarian state.

“Turkey is a free state that everyone is at liberty to do what they like so I do not see why their reportage was not fair,” she noted.

Madam Bayazit said the failed attempt had rather brought the country together and thanked the Turkish people for coming together and defending the country’s democracy.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Certified Economists of Ghana, Mr Daniel Anim Prempeh Amateye, in his speech, stated that the institute stood by Turkey.

He said the institute would ensure that business between the two countries was enhanced.

“I used to have a perception about Turkey till I visited there; quality things are produced at relatively affordable prices compared to other economies in the world,” he said.

He condemned the attack by the selected few whose selfish deeds nearly destroyed the image of Turkey.

Mr Amateye advised the country not to allow the incident to detract the attention of the government from growing the economy.
