MTN Ghana wins ten awards at GITTA 2017

Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN)  last Saturday scooped ten awards at the 7th Ghana Information Technology and Telecommunication Awards (GITTA) in Accra.

The telecom network won in the categories of Mobile Operator of the year, Mobile Money Service of the year, CSR Company of the year, and Cloud Service Provider and Customer Experience . Other categories included IT Team of the year, 4G/LTE Provider of the Year and Customer Service Team of the year.

Mr Ebenzer Twum Asante , Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana was adjudged the CEO of The Year while the Chief Technical Officer (CTO)of the year went to Mr Lawal Rufai also of MTN.

It's closest rival, Vodafone Ghana, won four categories namely, Telecom Wholesale Company of the year, Digital Transformation Award and the Telecom Brand of the Year. Yolanda Cuba CEO of Vodaphone was also adjudged the Industry Personality of the Year.

Airtel Ghana followed suit with two wins in the Telecom Business of the Year and Innovative use of Social Media categories.

Tigo in partnership with Bima grabbed the Connecting the unconnected and Innovative Partnership category.

The objective of the awards is to recognise the contributions of companies in the Telecommunication and Information Technology Industry.

The Chief Executive of InstinctWave, Mr Akin Naphtal, said the awards was instituted to reward hard work, innovation and dedication of individuals and companies in the IT and Telecom industry..

“GITTA has become one of the industry’s most prized honours. It is an accolade given to individuals and teams and is a vindication of the hard work, innovation and dedication of those at the forefront of this dynamic global profession,” he noted.

Minister of Communications, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful commended the organisers for their effort in establishing a reputable platform for honouring the continent's top performers in the IT sector.

She congratulated the winners and urged them not to rest on their laurels but to continue to keep working towards more innovative solutions that will benefit both their industry, their customers and the country in general.

Mrs Owusu-Ekuful who was selected as one of Ghana's TOP 25 ICT leaders in commemoration of the country's 60th Independence anniversary reiterated her Ministry's commitment to ensuring that the IT and telecommunication industry in Ghana develops to meet competitive standards on the International front.

"The government Itself is beginning to see the benefits of the digital revolution. This is very significant, and it is complementing these private initiatives with investments in electronic platforms to improve services to citizens."

"Additionally, there have been key initiatives such as the automation of Tax and Business registration systems which are already beginning to yield dividends, and upcoming digital platforms for procurement, immigration, parliamentary and judicial services which are likely to transform the way government engages with citizens and businesses."

She said government is committed to the IT and Telecommunication sector and in partnership with the private sector will achieve the objectives of development, growth and job creation for Ghanaians.
