The award comes on the back of her immense contribution to the insurance industry in Ghana.

A citation accompanying the award said: “As Ghana’s Insurance Commissioner, you have initiated profound regulatory changes which have significantly improved the financial prudence with which insurance companies are run. You are now promoting major changes in the framework under which insurance is provided in Ghana which will greatly enhance both risk management for small enterprises through the formalisation of micro-insurance and insurance for the agricultural sector which will  stabilise and guarantee the income of farmers and thus greatly enhance their access to direly needed credit.”

The Ghana Feminine awards was established three years ago to identify and publicly recognise and reward women whose personal and professional conducts have been exemplary with outsanding achievements .

The theme for this year’s awards held in Accra was: “The Role of Women in Ghana’s Socio-economic recovery.”

The Chief Executive Officer of the Business Executive Magazine, organisers of the award, Mrs Paulette Kporo, speaking at the  ceremony,  said the awards ceremony  was now a major event on the calendar of corporate Ghana.

“Over the past two decades since watershed Beijing conference, most countries around the world have adopted various measures aimed at empowering women to be the best they can be by removing the social and economic obstacles that have been put in their way by long standing norms and tradition,” she stated.

“But while such affirmative action policies have indeed played a major role in empowering women to play bigger, more active roles in society, in economic activity and political governance, it is sheer talent and determination of women themselves that have played the most pivotal role in the rising stature that women now enjoy worldwide,” she added.

She said the situation in Ghana was no different as more than ever before, women now occupy top positions both in public and private sectors.

“Women have now founded and manage enterprises that rank among the best to be found anywhere and are making interventions that are changing lives for the better,” she noted.
