Kunbuor inaugurates DIHOC board

THE Minister of Defence, Dr Benjamin Kunbuor has inaugurated a seven- member board of directors for the Defence Industries Holding Company (DIHOC) in Accra.

DIHOC, which is a civil-military collaboration for socio-economic development (CIMICISED) is an industrial development project to be embarked upon by the Ghana Armed Forces.

Presently, DIHOC which is to function in 10 operational business ventures is engaged in the manufacturing of footwear in Kumasi.

 

DIHOC is a limited liability company under the Ministry of Defence (MOD). The board of directors for DIHOC is to among other things give strategic directions to the company as well as advice the minister on policy directions, planning objectives and operational strategies.

 

DIHOC established

Giving a brief background to establishment of  DIHOC, Dr Kunbuor said in pursuance of the vision to embark on industrial development projects in support of national socio-economic development as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution, the Defence Industries Department (DID), was established in the MOD to oversee selected areas where defence manufacturing industries could be established.

He assured the board of the ministry’s utmost support and cooperation to ensure that its aims were achieved.

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Mr Gilbert Kenneth Adjei, who is the Chairman of the Board of DIHOC, on behalf of the board pledged to work assiduously and strive to drive the mission, vision and objectives of the company to greater heights.

He gave the assurance that the numerous challenges presently facing state enterprises in the country, would not be a hindrance to the success of DIHOC.

Mr Adjei said the board would work at ensuring that the other nine sectors of the company were duly established to help reduce the current unemployment rate in the country.

Other members of the board are Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Mathew Quashie,  Director General, DID, Brigadier General Anthony Komla Adokpa, Chief Director, MOD, Mr Alidu Fuseini, Director, Veterans Administration of Ghana (VAG) Affairs, MOD, Colonel M’bawine Atintande, Mr Samuel Kwasi Anomah, Chief Executive Officer, Osprey International Limited and Colonel Moses Kofi Gyeke Asante, Director Legal Services, MOD.
