The General Manager of the company, Mr Manpreet Singh, presented the cheque to support the 14-year-old student to further her education. She also received some products from the company.

Ms Ansah, a student of the Ridge Church School in Accra, expressed gratitude to the company and the organisers of the Spelling Bee competition, for giving her the platform to take part in the event.

Sharing her experience at the final event held in the United States of America, she said the programme was educative and insightful.

“Travelling to the USA for the finals was interesting; it was great meeting different people from other countries and fun visiting tourist sites in the States, “she recounted.

The Country Director of Spelling Bee Ghana, Mrs Eugenia Tachie-Menson, in an interview with the Daily Graphic, said as organisers of Spelling Bee programme in Ghana they felt vindicated that the Ghanaian child had the ability to compete among the best across the world, considering how far the 2016 Spelling Bee winner had gone.

“It feels rewarding because when Spelling Bee came to the market it was within this same time that Indomie had also come to the market. So it was like two young couples who were looking to get married and the marriage has been blessed with a prove, “she said

According to her, she believes that if Ghanaian children are given the platform and resources they can do as much as the children in the Western countries.

Expectations

She said it was necessary for parents to encourage their children to attempt to participate in such programmes as it broadens their knowledge base.

“We are expecting more children to participate in the programme. Ms Afua Ansah tried for three times before she got to this level. She didn’t give up and her parents have been supportive,” she said.

Mrs Tachie-Menson also reiterated the need for more parents to be involved in the competition explaining that “we really need involvement and encouragement from parents and with these we should keep producing champions.” she said.
