The new capital requirement debate which has been a thorny issue for local banks is to be announced in September this year and will bring to an end to two years of speculations on how much banks would be required to recapitalise.

But, the Divisional Director for Retail Banking of Fidelity Bank, Mr Julian Opuni, told the GRAPHIC BUSINESS on Tuesday (August 15) in Accra, that Fidelity Bank was prepared to beef up its capital accordingly.

“For us we are ready for the recapitalisation but with the evolution of the banking sector, Fidelity Bank is deploying technology-based solutions to drive financial inclusion and grow the bank among the top largest banks in the country,” he said.

Cutting-edge technology

Mr Opuni indicated that the bank had already adopted cutting-edge technology to support its product and service offerings.

Technology has already enabled the bank to engage agents across the country to ensure that more people, especially the unbanked get access to financial services.

According to him, the bank’s agency banking model, the first of its kind in Ghana, is an innovative strategy to promote financial inclusion by ensuring that anyone who is bankable can receive a full bank account in five minutes, despite any limitations that previously excluded them from accessing banking services.

Fidelity promotion

Mr Opuni who spoke to the paper after the first draw of the ongoing ‘Fidelity 10x Richer’ Promotion, indicated that the promotion was one of the bank’s way of showing appreciation to its customers for loyalty.

Five customers of the bank were rewarded with GH¢25,000 in the ongoing ‘Fidelity 10x Richer’ Promotion in Accra. The winners were Pius Adom, Adam Osman Adom, Anastasia Larsen, Nii Dalai Quist and Patience Amonimaah.

He said “In line with our 10th anniversary, we decided to give our customers the opportunity to get 10x richer, hence the concept of this new promotion dubbed “Fidelity 10x Richer Promo.”

He added that “With this money, they can increase their capital, pay school fees or finance any project they are working on. Fidelity Bank offers its customers cash prizes so that they can decide what to do with the money.”

Mr Opuni indicated that there were more prizes to be won in the remaining monthly draws, adding that the stakes were even higher in the grand draw and urged all customers to participate in the promotion win exciting prizes.

“In the next four monthly draws, we will also give 20 customers the opportunity of having their coupon balances multiplied by 10. And in the grand draw, three lucky customers will have their coupon balances multiplied by 10, so each winner will go home with GH¢50,000. So in all, we have GH¢275,000 up for grabs. Participate in the promo, who knows, you could be the one to walk away with GH¢ 50,000.00." — GB
