Dubai opens up health centres to Ghanaians

Dubai has initiated a programme to attract more people from Ghana and Africa to its health services and centres.

The programmes include a series of health exhibition, workshops, among others across many African countries; and it is being championed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) in collaboration with Dubai Health Experience.

Explaining the rationale behind the programme to the Daily Graphic, a representative of DHA, Ms Nishoo Ghorsh, said the programme seeks to build strategic partnership with African countries on how best people can access the health industry in the gulf city.

She said Africans patronised a lot of health services in Dubai and there was, therefore, the need for the service providers to interact with such patrons in their respective countries.

“We have realised the need for us to visit the continent and interact with clients and future clients directly. This will help the clients appreciate and explore more of our services and also enable us to have a direct connection with them,’’ she added.

Event in Ghana

Already, one of such events has been held in the country on March 20 and 21 at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.

The event attracted more than 15 medical and health service providers based in Dubai, who thronged Accra to showcase their services to the country.

The exhibitors included medical centres and private hospitals with speciality in neurology, interventional cardiology, cosmetic surgery, brain surgery and orthopaedic.

Other specialities on display were urology, pain management, gynaecology, dermatology, among others.

Medical tourism

Ms Ghorsh explained that the rationale behind the event was to expose Ghanaians to the quality health services available in the gulf city.

“This is part of a medical tourism outreach programme which is to tell people that Dubai is more than capable to provide the medical services that some people seek in Europe and the Americas,” she explained.

After Ghana, Ms Ghorsh added, the event would move to East Africa with stops in Ethiopia and Kenya, while the South African part would be held in Cape Town with the final North African leg in Morocco.

“Our hope is to also help improve the health systems in Africa,’’ she said.
