Cloud storage service launched in Accra
A cloud storage service designed for the African environment has been introduced to solve problems faced with data management and processing.

It is also meant to help change business processes for companies to enable them to cut cost and improve efficiency.
The Manager of OpencloudGH, the company behind the service, Mr Blaze Adoh, said at the launch of OpencloudGH that the software would help businesses by reducing cost involved with data management and data recovery without compromising on security.
“What I think we really need to understand in Ghana and in Africa is that with the introduction of cloud storage services, we can actually cut down lot of cost for infrastructure. We can actually be productive to resources as a company to achieve a task”, reduce he added.
OpencloudGH is a secure cloud storage service that resolves challenges relating to data access, recovery, security and backup for individuals and businesses.
It provides services for multinationals, financial institutions, telecom institutions, media houses, consultancy firms, public institutions and individuals.
It is meant to speed up data.
Objectives
Mr Adoh said companies collapsed because of the management of their storage service but with cloud storage system, it would help save major cost.
The service comes with packages ranging from GH¢15 for an individual per month and GH¢1500 for a company or a corporate entity.
Target
Mr Adoh said the Company’s target was to partner communication companies, internet service providers and reach the whole of Ghana in the next five years.
Security
OpencloudGH has embedded features that guarantees security of files such as multi-level password, encrypted communication channels and file and access level restrictions for shared documents.
It also follows guidelines provided by the Data Protection Commission of Ghana for the data security.
Managers explained that the service run on Internet and other handy devices including mobile phones and tablets.
This makes the service unlimited pertaining electronic devices.
Data Protection
The Executive Director of the Data Protection Commission, Mrs Teki Akuetteh Falconer, urged managers of OpencloudGH to ensure clearer terms and conditions and make sure users were abreast of the legal implications concerning handling of personal information. “Any other thing in the technology space that has the ability to collect and hold personal information, we at the commission see it as an important tool to educate the technologist and the users of the platform that you are creating.Cloud service is a useful tool,” she added.
