CIMG calls for right policies and personnel if incoming govt will succeed

The Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) has called on the in-coming administration under President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to put the right people and policies in place to enable him deliver on the numerous promises that led to his election.

According to the CIMG, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has an obligation to fulfil its promises, looking at the expectations of the electorate, adding, however, that the association was of the belief that with determination and the right policies and people in place, no task would be impossible.

At the association’s 27th Presidential Dinner Dance in Accra, the President of CIMG, Mr Kojo Mattah, said the numerous promises such as the one district one factory, one village one dam, one constituency one million dollars, among other things would be a difficult task.

Using Marketing as an example, he stated that, “relationship building principles taught us to be measured on our promises to be able to exceed the customer’s expectation.”

He said he was, however, optimistic that the right things would be done to clear the herculean hurdles ahead.

Political process

Mr Mattah also pointed out that the just ended political process was a practical demonstration of customer’s relationship building being tested.

“How did the political parties touch base with the electorate (customers)? There is clear evidence that the winning party touched base with their customers. They listened, they showed empathy to the plight of the consumers concerning utilities such as electricity and water, the payment of school fees, the high cost of business operations among other things,” he stated.

He said this was at variance with the strong attachment the ruling party gave to national projects that were yet to affect the ordinary citizen with their dire consequences.

“For the President to be beaten in the polling stations around the modern Kotokuraba market in Cape Coast speaks volumes of customer relationship building,” he added.

Building strong relationships

The CIMG President also reminded members of the need to build strong relationships in their engagements.

“It is apparent that we remind ourselves of the essentials needed for building, maintaining and prosecuting various agenda that we pursue within the ever-increasing multi-channel environment we have now,” he mentioned.

He said it could not be gainsaid that the relationships one had formed with various types of people in many different areas of life could serve as a foundation for creating ties with clients, adding that it was, therefore, worthwhile to reflect on what truly makes a relationship last.

“Forging solid relationships seems simple on the surface, but these ties require time, effort and tact.  A personal connection, whether developed over weeks, months or years, can lead to positive word-of-mouth, increased sales, additional connections, job security and satisfaction,” he said.

Presidential dinner

The CIMG Presidential Dinner Dance is the last official event that brings the activities of the institute in the year to a close.

It provides the platform for the President of the association to host a number of corporate executives and professionals.

This year’s event was on the theme, “Forging stronger customer relationships in a multi-channel environment: the marketing connectivity factor.”
