The African Leadership Magazine in Atlanta, Georgia, presented him with the award on the sidelines of the Doing Business in Africa Investment Forum.

He was commended for successfully overseeing and implementing of Ghana's no-flaring policy and the establishment of the Ghana National Gas Company at Atuabo.

Credited with success

The former minister was also credited with the successful completion of the Tweneboah Enyenra and Ntome (TEN) and the Offshore Cape Three Point (OCTP) projects that did not only boost Ghana's oil and gas prospects but also gas for thermal power for its industrialisation.

Mr Buah was again commended for the commitment shown to the development and the passage of the Local Content and Local Participation Bill into law that ensured that Ghanaians played a part in the industry.

The smooth passage of the new exploration and production law clearly positioned the country as the investment destination in the West African sub-region.

Mr Buah was also credited with the proposed gas master plan to guide the country’s gas development for the next several decades.

The award was presented to him by the CEO of the African Leadership Magazine, Dr Ken Giame, with the support of Mr Jim Munson, the Head of the Rotary Club Atlanta.

With visible signs of surprise at the ceremony when his name was mentioned to step forward for the award, Mr Buah thanked the organisers for the recognition.

“I am humbled by the awards, to me I was just one of the humble servants appointed by the former Presidents – Professor John Evans Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama.

“I must say it’s amazing and encouraging that while busily delivering what was expected of me, my efforts were being watched and recognised by noble institution such as yours,” he said

The discovery

Mr Buah said it was obvious that the discovery of oil and gas in commercial quantity in any country always came with high expectation that needed to be managed.

As a result, there was a conscious effort to make sure the best was delivered to the country with good examples for others to learn from, “to me and my team at the ministry and the government, it was a call to duty.”

“Therefore, taking office, we were left with no option than to ensure that we delivered, pass the appropriate laws and propose the needed infrastructure to ensure that the right thing was done,” he said.

Dr Buah dedicated the award to God for the opportunity to serve his country at a crucial sector during a critical time of the discovery amidst high expectations and to the ordinary people of Ghana and to former President Mahama for the incredible leadership provided.
