The GITTA Awards recognises and celebrates telecom operators and ICT firms that have distinguished themselves in providing exceptional services to customers. This year’s Awards was held last Saturday in Accra.

Airtel was recognised in four of the most prestigious categories – Telecom Business of the Year and the Most Innovative Use of Social Media. Airtel Nigeria’s CEO, Segun Ogunsanya, who is also a member of Airtel Ghana’s Board of Directors, was adjudged Africa Telecom CEO of the Year and Airtel Ghana’s Managing Director, Lucy Quist, was specially recognised as one of the leading figures in the telecom industry in Ghana.

Telecom Business of the Year
The Telecom Business of the Year Award was given to the industry’s number one provider of enterprise solutions – for both large corporations and SMEs.

Airtel Business, a sub brand of Airtel Ghana and a provider of end-to-end communications, connectivity and collaborative solutions for businesses – from large multinational corporations to SMEs – was recognised as the Telecom Business of the Year.

This recognition speaks to Airtel Business’ exceptional value proposition, the provision of tailored business solutions that have powered thousands of local and international businesses in Ghana and across the sub-region and the commitment and dedication of the Airtel Business team to respond to the needs of customers.

The Award was also in recognition of the unit’s contribution to Ghana’s democratic process – having partnered the Electoral Commission of Ghana in the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections by connecting over 3,000 polling stations in three regions to the national headquarters of the Commission to power the transmission of results from polling stations and collating centers.

Airtel Business also supported the Women Situation Room – a regional body that promotes peace during elections – by setting up a contact center connecting hundreds of agents across the country.

Best Use of Social Media

Airtel Ghana was for the second consecutive year recognised for innovatively using Social Media to engage with customers. The company was also recognised for using social media to provide relevant content that inspires and connects with customers and followers, as well as for adopting a proactive strategy to engage and respond to queries and customer complaints in a timely manner.

Airtel Nigeria’s CEO, Segun Ogunsanya, who doubles as a member of Airtel Ghana’s Board of Directors was adjudged Africa Telecom CEO of the Year for his leadership, strategic insight and contribution that has transformed not only the operations of Airtel Nigeria but has impacted the entire industry across the continent.
