St Augustine’s, Aggrey win top basketball awards

The organisers of the award, Rite Multimedia, said the awards were in recognition of their efforts over the calendar year which saw them emerge tops in the 2016 Sprite Ball High School Championship.

Players who were key to the success of both teams were also rewarded for their contributions with individual awards on the night.

Aggrey's Juliana Cudjoe, who scored the winning point in their 9-8 Sprite Ball triumph over Accra Wesley Girls SHS, was named the High School Female Player of the Year.

Juliana contested for the Best Player crown with her Aggrey teammate Joana Danso, and Mamata Yusif of Accra Wesley Girls SHS.

AUGUSCO’s power forward Dennis Dugbenu (aka Mantse), who was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the Sprite Ball in January, was named the Best High School Player.

Master Dugbenu brushed off competition from Kofi Aboagye-Acheampong (Mfantsipim School) and Emmanuel Agyapong (Opoku Ware School) to clinch the coveted title.

Both players received plaques and undisclosed cash prizes for their achievements.

Augusco completed a treble in the High School category when their basketball coach, Lawrence Ampiah, who guided his lads to their first-ever Sprite Ball title, won the Coach of the Year.
