Cricket: Ghana beat Everest Club

The national cricket team defeated Everest Cricket club by six wickets in a special friendly played at their base at Obuasi.

The match, which was a preparatory competition towards the ICC World Cricket League Qualifier- Africa Division One tournament scheduled for Benoni, South Africa, formed part of a 10-day camping to put the team in good shape for the qualifiers.

Everest won the toss and elected to field first. The national cricket men’s team scored 230 runs for 4 wickets in 50 overs, while Everest managed to score 115 runs all out in 40.5 overs. 

Before this game, the two sides had met in the President’s League during which the national team emerged victors.

Outstanding performers on the day were David First, who contributed 97 runs, Samson Awiah, who scored 64 runs and Isaac Aboagye, who also scored 25 runs.

The team is expected to depart Accra on Sunday, March 26, 2017 to Benoni, South Africa for camping ahead of the tournament which kicks off on April 7 to 17. 

Meanwhile, Adisadel College defeated Saltpond Under-17 cricket team by seven wickets in a friendly encounter staged at the Achimota Cricket oval.

 Adisadel won the toss and opted to field. They got Saltpond U17 all-out for 101 runs. The Adisco lads exhibited good fielding and in the second innings, Adisadel made 103 runs for 3 wickets to win the game by 7 wickets. 

The event was under the development agenda of the  national association with support from the Central Region Cricket Association.
