Winners, losers must work together, Rev. Antwi-Tumfuor urges politicians
The head pastor of the Ho Bankoe District of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P.) Church Ghana, Rev. Emmanuel Antwi-Tumfuor, says winners and losers of this year’s election should have open hearts and be ready to tap into the good ideas of one another to push the national development agenda forward.

According to him, the country’s development could not be left to an individual or a political party, and so it behoved all to work together.
Rev. Antwi-Tumfuor, who is also a National Director of Evangelism of the E. P Church, said this during a welcome service held in his honour as Head Pastor of the Ho Bankoe District of the E.P. Church, Ghana.
“I am particularly happy that this welcome service is taking place at a crucial time in Ghana’s democratic journey which calls for the voice of the church to be sounding the bell for peaceful and successful polls. We have just seen the conduct of the Special voting which witnessed some hitches. We should not use those hitches to pass quick judgement on the officials of the Electoral Commission. Rather, let us make constructive suggestions to help them to rectify the problems towards a hitch-free general election tomorrow,” he said.
He appealed to members of the church to reach out to their political friends in the various political parties to put the country first in all their actions before, during and after tomorrow’s poll.
History, Rev. Antwi-Tumfuor said, had offered Ghanaians adequate lessons to know that in the world over, a political party which formed government today could be in opposition tomorrow, adding that it was the reason policies of ruling governments should not antagonise political opponents, since the political table could turn anytime.
“Our state institutions should try to live above reproach so that they may not be perceived as doing the bidding of any political interest,” he added.
He urged church leaders to be mindful of their utterances especially during election periods, “so that we do not alienate any member of our congregations just because we want to look good in the eyes of certain politicians or powerful forces in the society”.
He called for total support of members of the church to propagate the word of God in a world that found itself in challenging times.
‘We thank God for the technological advances made over the years to make the world a better place for all, but the greed of man, has made society to degenerate into high moral decadence.
“It is in this regard that the church which is seen as the agency to lead moral uprightness should be heard loud and clear in condemning the high moral decadence which day in day out is threatening the very existence of man,” he said.
