Parliament resumes sitting

The third meeting of the fourth session of the sixth parliament of the fourth republic opens today after a two-month recess.

During this meeting, 23 bills will be at the table for presentation, according to a statement issued by the Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Parliament, Ms Kate Addo.

It named the bills as Head of Family Accountability Bill, 2016; Legal Service Bill, 2016; Road safety Bill, 2016; Tax Administration Bill; Corporate Insolvency Bill and Affirmative Action (Gender Equality) Bill, 2016.

Others are the Prison Service Bill, 2016; Advertising Bill, 2016, and Statistics Bill, 2016.

The statement indicated that there were 10 bills at committee level, which were still being worked on. 

The bills are the Companies Bill, 2013; Property Rights of Spouses, 2013; Whistleblower (Amendment) Bill, 2015; Narcotics Control Commission Bill, 2015; Registration of Births and Deaths Bill, 2015; Witness Protection Bill, 2015; Cooperative Bill, 2015; National Youth Scheme Bill, 2016; Tertiary Education Research Fund Bill, 2016, and Lotto and Lotteries Authority Bill, 2016.

Public Officers Bill,

Eleven bills are at the consideration stage, and they are the Conduct of Public Officers Bill, 2013; Intestate Succession Bill, 2013; Right to information Bill, 2013; Real Estate Authority Bill, 2015; Chieftaincy (Amendment) Bill, 2013; Plant Breeders Bill, 2013, and the Ghana Aids Commission Bill, 2015.

The rest are the Public Private Partnership Bill, 2016; Local Governance Bill, 2016; Presidential (Transition)(Amendment) Bill, 2015, and the Sports Bill, 2016.

The statement named the Wildlife Resources Management Bill, 2015, the Interception of Postal Packets and Telecommunication Messages Bill, 2015; Public Holidays (Amendment) Bill, 2016; the Children’s (Amendment) Bill, 2016, and the Development and Classification of Film Bill, 2016 as the bills for Second Reading. 

Nine instruments are to be presented at the meeting in addition to three instruments at the committee level and 32 papers.

According to the statement, 10 motions had been tabled for debate and 100 other referrals of bills at the committee level.

Besides, it said, there would be notice of questions to be answered by various sector ministers.
