Akufo-Addo, campaign team board ferry despite initial setbacks

The presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his campaign team were stranded yesterday for two hours when the Dambai ferry they had wanted to use to reach residents of Krachi Nchumuru and Krachi West constituencies had some challenges.

The team later yesterday boarded the ferry despite the initial setback to the two constituencies to propagate the party's change message ahead of the December 7 polls.

NPP First Vice Chairman, Dr Archibald Letsa, told Joy News that they were happy the hurdle which could have ended the party's campaign in the Volta Region had been surmounted.

“We haven’t lost hope, we are hopeful that whatever time it takes us we are going to Krachi Nchumuru and Krachi West constituencies," he said.

According to reports, the hold up was due to a truck loaded with yam which skidded off the ferry on its way to Krachi West.

“The truck was partially submerged in the lake, blocking the ferry from moving and it had to be towed out of the lake before the ferry could return," reports explained.

According to Starr News’ correspondent,  information from the ferry operators suggested a truck which was moving onto the ferry skidded and partially plunged into the river, making it impossible for the ferry to move, unless the truck was towed.

However, some NPP officials are suspecting a sabotage on the part of the Volta Regional Minister Helen Ntoso who is also MP for Krachi West.

Nana Akufo-Addo was scheduled to move to the Krachi Nchumuru and Krachi West constituencies yesterday to continue his campaign with his team.

Speaking to Starr News, Dr Letsa said the campaign team was “behind schedule” but remains undaunted with the development.

“We don’t know what is going on because this is not the first time. It happened to Kufuor in 1996 and happened to us in 2012,” Dr Letsa opined.

According to him, they are “disappointed” but said “although we are held back we’ll make it.”
