Fashion design training school holds capacity-building programme

A two-day free capacity-building training programme has been organised for graduates and students of Abbi Creation University College, a fashion design training school in Accra.

The training programme was on the theme: “Building a startup, starting right for long-term succession” and was organised by Omnibank as part of its corporate social responsibility programme dubbed ‘growing communities’.

Eighty participants took part in the mentorship programme which was aimed at equipping the new fashion designers with the requisite skills and knowledge of starting their own businesses and creating employment instead of waiting to be employed.

They were taken through types of businesses in Ghana and their registration procedures, setting up and managing a startup business, building a sustainable business, financial management, customer service and branding.

The training was facilitated by the Chief Executive of Horseman Shoes, Mr Tonyi Senayah; the Co-founder of Wear Ghana,  Awura Abena Agyemang; the Chief Executive officer of Alkan Business Consult, Mrs Alberta Quarcoopome, and the legal and board Secretary of Omnibank, Mr Michael Terpetey Narh.

Training platform

At the opening of the training programme, the Head of Business and retail Banking of Omnibank, Mr Dominic Donkoh, said the bank focused on small and medium enterprises (SME) and had committed more resources to use the training platform to empower more entrepreneurs.

He asked business owners to put in place systems, including proper bookkeeping and the use of technology, to manage, control and expand their businesses.

He urged the participants to explore the opportunities the creative industry presented for economic growth while they kept themselves abreast of the new trend to meet the current competition to enable them to compete on the local and international level.
