2 Fugitives to serve six years in prison

The Offinso Circuit Court has sentenced two fugitives to three years’ imprisonment each with hard labour.

The two — Iddrisu Yahaya, aka K2, and Kofi Agyare, aka Bongo — were re-arrested from their hideouts upon a tip-off on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, after they had escaped from police cells the previous day.

The court, presided over by Mr Samuel Owetey Ansah, convicted the two escapees for conspiracy and escaping from lawful custody.

They were among six suspects who escaped from cells at the Abofour Police Station on Tuesday, July 19, 2016.

Background 

Six suspects who had been arrested and kept in police custody at the Abofour Police Station in the Offinso South Municipality in the Ashanti Region escaped from cells on Tuesday, July 19.

They were Yahaya, Agyare, Kwame Frimpong, aka Rambo; Pasoley Mahmound, Baba Evans and Akwasi Grumah.

Following their escape, the district police command issued a 10-day ultimatum to the police at Abofour to produce the six escapees.

Re-arrest

The Offinso District Police Commander, Superintendent Michael Boateng, confirmed to the Daily Graphic that Agyare was arrested in the afternoon of Wednesday, July 20 upon a tip-off that he was hiding at a village close to the Abofour Forest.

He said Yahaya was later that day re-arrested at his hideout. 

Meanwhile, the four others remain wanted.

Supt Boateng urged the public to assist the police to apprehend the four remaining escapees.
